Hiking & Trekking Boots
Trekking and hiking boots are half-height boots whose shaft reaches above the ankle. In this category, you’ll find boots for hiking or trekking, but also for mountaineering and climbing. Why does the shaft have to be so high? Well, when hiking in the mountains on stony and loose terrain, the risk of twisting your ankle is increased. A high upper made of robust outer material (leather, nylon) and soft inner lining gives the ankle more support and stability. For a secure step, however, a profiled, stable and non-slip outer sole is also extremely important. If you wear your boots on easy hiking routes, the sole can be a little more flexible, but in the high mountains, when crampons are used, you’ll need an outer sole that’s as stiff as a board.
